Low-flow water fixtures such as faucets, shower heads, toilets and urinals help building owners conserve water and reduce utility bills, making buildings more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient. They help lower overall water consumption without sacrificing performance.
How Low-Flow Water Fixtures Work
Low-flow water fixtures including aerators and flow restrictors reduce the amount of water used while maintaining sufficient pressure for everyday tasks. For example, standard faucets typically use 2 to 4 gallons per minute (gpm) while ones fitted with aerators use 0.5 to 1.0 gpm. Low-flow shower heads use 1.2 to 1.5 gpm compared to 2.5 gpm for standard shower heads. Toilets using less than 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf) and urinals using less than 1 gpf are considered low flow. Low flow fixtures lower the demand for hot water heating and related energy costs.
